Question 284343: y = 3x +7 and x + 2y = -10
a.Are the lines perpendicular? Explain why by comparing the slopes of the lines.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
These equations are in standard form ax+by=c not slope intercept form y=mx+b
In this form the slope is -a/b
the slope of the first is -3/7
the second -1/2
if they were parallel they would be the same
if they are perpendicular the product of the two slopes would be -1
they are neither.
