Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Adult ticket $5 student ticket $3 Ben collected $180 for the 50 tickets he sold. How many adult and student tickets did he sell?
----------------
Equations:
Quantity Eq.::::a + s = 50
Value Eq.::::::5a+3s = 180
-----
Multiply thru the Quantity equation by 5:
5a + 5s = 5*50
----
Subtract that from the Value Eq. and solve for "s":
-2s = -70
s = 35 (# of student tickets sold)
---------------------------------------
Since a + s = 50, a = 15 (# of adult tickets sold)
