Start with the second equation.

Plug in

Combine like terms on the left side.

Subtract from both sides.

Combine like terms on the right side.

Divide both sides by to isolate .

Reduce.

Move back to the first equation.

Plug in

Multiply

Here is another problem that I am confused with. Some of the problems are one way and then they are changed around and that when I get lost.
y = 2x + 1
x + y = 4
whenever you get such a problem first you get all the variables on the left side of the equation and the numbers on the right side.
y-2x=1
y+x=4
subtract
-3x=-3
3x=3
x=1
y+1=4
y=4-1 =3
