To find a point in a graph, you need an x and y value, right? So, given the equation, you need to isolate one of the variables first. Most books and teachers will pick to isolate y, but you can choose x... you'll end up with the same line on the graph. When you get to use a graphing calculator, you will need to isolate y because that's who they're programmed. So we'll isolate y.

Move x to the right side of eqn

Now divide by -2 on both sides to isolate y

Now, create a table that looks like a large T. On the left side, list your x values, the right will signify your y values. The problem is asking you for 5 points, so we need to list 5 values of x and solve for y.
Say you pick: 1,2,3,4,5
Then, plug in 1 into the eqn, you get:

Here are your first two values. When x=1, y= -5/2
