Derive the slope intercept form of a linear equation from the slope formula using (0,b) as the coordinates of the point where the line crosses the y axis and an arbitary point (x,y)

Step 1. The slope-intercept form is given as y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept b at point (0,b).

Step 2. The slope formula is given for two points P(x1,y1) and Q(x2,y2) as

Step 3. Now let x2=x, y2=y, x1=0, and y1=b and substitute in the slope formula in Step 2.

Multiply x to both sides of the equation to get rid of denominator

Now add b to both sides of the equation.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
