: I have two lines for a system of linear equations. They are y= -3/2x -215. and y= 7x +1026. I thried and I got x is -73/2 and y is 254.24. When I plug it in to check it they did not equal each other. Thank you for helping and any help you give would be great. This question is from textbook Algebra I

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y= -3/2x -215
y= 7x +1026
-3x/2-215=7x+1026
-3x/2-7x=1026+215
-1.5x-7x=1241
-8.5x=1241
x=1241/-8.5
x=-146 ans.
y=7*-146+1026
y=-1022+1026
y=4 ans.
Proof:
4=-3/2*-146-215
4=438/2-215
4=219-215
4=4
