I'm not sure how to do substitution, so if you could tell me were everything is coming from it would be a great help.

Solve by "substitution" means yo have to eliminate one of the variables (x or y) by substituting the other variable (y or x) into one of the two equations.
It's easier to demonstrate the process:

Substitute this for y in the 1st equation.
Simplify and so;vefor x.

Add 4x to both sides.
Subtract 3 from both sides.
Divide both sides by 4.
Now substitute this into either equation and solve for y.
