Since you have a squared variable, you will get two answers for both x and y. First multiply the second equation by -3 and get . Add that to the first equation and get . Move 4 over to the left by subtracting it from both sides and get . Factor it out and get . Then plug in the values of x that make that true. Those would be -1 and 4, because if you plug those in, you end up with zero. Then go back to either of the first two original equations and plug both x values in. The answer you get after plugging in each values is your y value. You should get y=8 and 3. (8 when x=-1 and 3 when x=4). Therefore x=-1;4 and y=8;3.
