Mr.Lim buys 30kg of cheese at a certain price. She finds that if she had bought some cheaper cheese costing 95 cents less per kg , she could have had 32.5kg for the same amount of money . What is the price per kg of the cheese which is more expensive ?
let x the the price per kg of the more expensive cheese
30x=32.5(x-0.95)
then
-2.5x=-0.95(32.5)=-30.875
then x=30.875/2.5=12.35
R: the price is 12.35 per kg

The price she paid for 30 kg is x dollars per kg. So the total amount she paid is 30x dollars. The price she could have paid was then x - 0.95 dollars per kg, and the total amount she would have paid for 32.5 kg would then be 32.5(x-.95), and we are given that these two quantities are equal. So:

So the price of the expensive cheese is $12.35/kg.

Check:
12.35 * 30 = $370.50

12.35 - .95 = 11.40. 11.40 * 32.5 = $370.50. Answer checks.

By the way, 30 kg of cheese is a little over 66 lbs of cheese, more than twice the annual per captia cheese consumption in the US in 2005 (31.2 lbs(14.2 kg) according to Food and Drink Weekly, June 6, 2005). Maybe Mr. Lim runs a pizza restaurant...

Let = the price per kg of the cheese she bought
Let = what she paid for the cheese

The cheaper cheese cost 95 cents less per kg, or

Note that is the same becase the cheese cost her
the same amount
Set the 's equal to eachother

This is in cents, since I used 95 cents in the equation
So, the price per kg that she paid was $12.35
This is the more expensive cheese
check answer:

This verifies that she would have paid $370.50 in either case
