How many novelists are there? How many poets are there?

5 to 3 is the same as 5x to 3x where 5x is # of novelists and 3x is # of poets.

EQUATION:
5x + 3x = 24
8x = 24
x = 3
5x = 15 (# of novelists)
3x = 9 (# of poets)
