You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write the equation in either slope-intercept form or standard form:
The line through the points (0,12) and (5,8)

Since you have a choice of which form to use, you should almost always pick slope-intercept. It is much easier in my opinion. You already know that the y-intercept is 12, so now all you need is the slope. You can find the slope using this formula:
%28y2-y1%29%2F%28x2-x1%29

So, enter your numbers into the formula to get:
%288-12%29%2F%285-0%29

Subtract:
-4%2F5

Now you know the slope. The model of slope-intercept form is y=mx%2Bb. m=slope and b=y-intercept. So, if you plug your slope and y-intercept into their appropriate positions, you get:
y=%28-4%2F5%29x%2B12
And that is your equation!
