Brad sold tickets to a track meet. It cost $6 for an adult ticket and $3 for a student ticket. Let x represent the number of adult tickets sold and let y represent the number of student tickets sold. Find the intercepts. What does each intersept represent?
I guess I need to find the y and x intercepts then tell what the intercepts represent....

I think you are missing something in the way this problem was written, the total
value of the tickets sold has to be known to make logical equation.

In order to help you, I will assign a total value of $450 and proceed from there
:
Adult$ + Child$ = 450
:
6x + 3y = 450
:
The best way to understand intercepts, is to graph it
:
Put the equation in the general "y=" form
6x + 3y = 450
3y = 450 - 6x
Divide equation by 3:
y = 150 - 2x

Plot the positive values:
for x = 0, then y = 150
for x = 50 then y = 50
:
If you join these coordinates with a straight line it should look this:

Notice the intercepts
y intercept occurs when x = 0
That's when only children's tickets are sold. 150 of them 150*3 = $450

x intercept occurs when y = 0
That's when only adult tickets are sold. 75 of them; 75 * 6 = $450

The rest of the graph is when there is a combination of the two
ie 50 adults, 50 children: (50*6) + (50*3) = $450
