a. Define the variables.
Let # of oranges be "r"
Then # of apples is "2r"
---------------------------
b. Write an algebraic equation using one variable for the above situation.
r + 2r = 12
----------------
c. Solve this equation for the number of apples and oranges you purchase
3r = 12
r = 4 (# of oranges)
2r = 8 (# of apples)
