(176-x) bags at the price of $2.75 per bag.


Write the total money equation


    3.50x + 2.75*(176-x) = 520  dollars.


From the equation, find x


    x =  = 48.


ANSWER.  There are 48 hardwood bags and the rest, 176 - 48 = 128 are pine bark bags.


CHECK.   48*3.50 + 128*2.75 = 520 dollars, total.    ! Correct !
