y = -x + 4   (1)

y = x - 2    (2)


Add equations (1) and (2).  The terms "-x" and "x" will cansel each other, and you will get


2y = 4 - 2 = 2    -  hence,  y = 1.


Then from eq(2)  x = y + 2 = 1 + 2 = 3.


ANSWER.  x= 3, y= 1.
