X - y = 8

Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Put it into the slope-intercept form
which looks like:
where
slope =
y-intercept =
----------------------
Add to both sides

Subtract from both sides

Now just write it in the opposite direction

Now it is in the slope-intercpt form:
where

-------------
Now it's easy to graph because the slope
tells you the line slopes up from lower left to
upper right.
The y-intercept is where the line cuts
the y-axis. This is the point ( 0, -8 )
--------------
You just need 1 other point, the x-intercept.
That is where , so

This is the point ( 8,0 )
----------------------
Here's the plot:

I don't know how to linear graph
X - y = 8
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From
x - y = 8
you can get
x-8 = y
by moving y from the left to the right and changing its sign, and
by moving 8 from the right to the left and changing sign.
But x-8 = y is the same as y = x - 8.
Now ask yourself: can you plot / graph   y = x - 8  ?
Fill the missing y values, using your equation solved for y in terms of x.
Plot the points (x,y) and draw the line.
x-y = 8
so y = x-8
Generate values for y assuming certain values for x
When
x= 9, y =1 (9,1)
x=-2, y =-10 (-2,-10)
x=5, y =-3 (5,-3)
Plot the points and draw a line graph
That's it
I don't know how to linear graph
X - y = 8
Substitute 0 for x and solve for y to get the y-intercept. This will be in the form: (0, y)
Substitute 0 for y and solve for x to get the x-intercept. This will be in the form: (x, 0)
Join the 2 points!
That's all! No need to go crazy and take a day when this can be done in less than a minute
