Question 1018643: please divide and show work to solve x^2-11/x-4
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Long-dividing here is clumsy, but let me see what I can show you...from
divide x into x^2, place the x on top...
Then multiply the divisor by x and get x^2 - 4x...
Write that below x^2 - 11 and subtract it...
You get 4x.
Now bring down the -11.
Divide x into 4x and get +4, which you write on top (next to the x)...
Multiply this 4 by the divisor and get 4x - 16 which you write below the 4x - 11 and subtract.
You get 5, which is your remainder, written on top as 5/(x-4).
Your answer is
x + 4 + 5/(x-4)
