Question 879129: Can you explain how to convert tonne into centimeter and 1000 seconds is how many minutes?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Tonne is measured in cubic centimeters and is different depending on the material you are converting for.
I believe this is because ton is a weight measure and cubic centimeters if a volume measurement and the difference has to do with the density of the material being measured.
Seconds to minutes is much easier.
1 minute = 60 seconds.
The ratio of seconds to minutes is therefore equal to 60 and the ratio of minutes to seconds is equal to 1/60.
If you have 1000 seconds, then you multiply it by 1/60 to get 16 and 2/3 minutes.
If you multiply 2/3 seconds by 60, you get 40 seconds.
Your answer is either 16 and 2/3 minutes, or 16 minutes and 40 seconds.
Back to Tonne.
Tonne is the common term for a metric ton which is equal to 2240 pounds.
See the following reference:
http://grammarist.com/spelling/ton-tonne/
the conversion depends on the density of the material since tonne is a measure of weight and cubic centimeters are a measure of volume.
A good reference to see how this conversion is done can be found at the following link:
http://www.ehow.com/how_8358837_convert-tons-cubic-centimeters.html
That reference talks about tons rather than tonnes.
A ton is equal to 2000 pounds.
A tonne is equal to 2240 pounds.
The instructions should be the same except you would replace 2000 with 2240 in order to get the conversion.
Here's the same instructions using tonnes instead of tons.
Step 1:
Multiply the material's weight, in tonnes, by 2,240 to convert it to pounds. If you are calculating the volume of, for instance, 5 tons of cement, you would calculate 5 x 2,240 = 11,200 pounds.
Step 2:
Divide this weight by the substance's density, measured in pounds per cubic foot. With cement, which has a density of 94 lb. per cubic foot, you would calculate 11,200 / 94 = 119.1489 cubic feet rounded to 4 decimal places.
Step 3:
Multiply your answer by 28,317, the number of cubic centimeters in a cubic foot, to get:
119.1489 cubic feet * 28,317 cubic centimeters per cubic foot = 3,373,939.401 cubic centimeters.
The attached links contain different densities of different materials in pounds per cubic foot.
