Question 647404: Gasoline sells for 1.2 euros/liter in Bonn. What is the price in units of U.S. per gallon? (1 gallon = 3.785 liters), ($1 USD = 1.256 EU).
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi, my name is Aaron I am in 10th grade and im in honors trig/pre-calc.
lets start by converting the price in bonn to dollars
1.2/1.256
this is about 95.54 cents/liter
now lets convert the price to reflect gallons instead of liters. We know their are 3.785 liters in a gallon, so now lets solve
95.54*3.785
this simplifies to roughly 361.62 cents/gallon, now convert to dollars. About $3.62/gallon
Hope I helped. I would really appreciate your recommendation, their are plenty of other things I could be doing rather then spending time on this site helping people. Good luck! :)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The correct answer requires using conversion factors. The answer provided previously is not correct because the conversion factors are backwards (1 EUR= $1.256) not the other way around.
1.2 EUR/1 liter x $1.256/1 EUR x 3,785 liter/1 gallon = $5.704/gallon
Simply multiply the numerators going across,
then multiply the denominators going across.
liters and EUR cancel out.
This leaves you with dollars in the numerator and gallons in the denominator.
So the correct answer is $5.70 per gallon. (Gas is expensive in Europe).
