set up a fractional relationship thus
8oz. onion/.5gal=x/(1quart+.5gal.)
8/.5=x/(.25+.5)
8/.5=x/.75 now cross multiply
.5x=8*.75
.5x=6
x=6/.5
x=12 oz. of onions needed to keep the same strength.
