Then her son was 2d yrs. old when Mrs. Lee was 44.
When her daughter was 26, Mrs. Lee was twice her son's age.
This means 26 - d years have passed since Mrs. Lee was 44.
So, if her daughter was 26 at this time, that means her son was 2d + (26 - d)
And, Mrs. Lee's age at this time was 44 + (26 - d)
Mrs. Lee was twice her son's age at this time:
44 + (26 - d) = 2(2d + (26 - d))
Solve for d:
70 - d = 2d + 52 -> 3d = 18 -> d = 6
