Question 333608: A store sells storage bins that are 15 1/4 inches in length. Tom wants to line his wall with these bins. If his wall is 5 yards long, how many of these bins will fit along the wall? I tried 5 divided by 15 1/4, but the answer resulted did not seem correct. So I tried 15 1/4 divided by 5 and the answer was 3.04, but I am not sure if that is the correct answer, and I am not sure if I am doing the problem right either. I would greatly appreciate it if I get some help.

If his wall is 5 yards long, how many of these bins will fit along the wall?

First of all you have to convert 5 yd to inches, (bins are 15.25 inches)
:
5 * 36 = 180 inches is the length of the wall

= 11.8, therefore 11 bins

Check this: 11 * 15.25 = 167.75 inches
180 - 167.75 = 12.25 inches, not enough for another 15.25" bin
