Write an equation for each statement:

Angela did 5 fewer than twice as many sit-ups as Paula.
a = 2p - 5
:
Between the two of them, they did a total of 136 sit-ups.
a + p = 136
Replace a with (2p-5) in the above equation, find p
(2p - 5) + p = 136
2p + p = 136 + 5
3p = 141
p +
p = 47 pull-ups by Paula
then
a = 2(47) - 5
a = 94-5
a = 89 pull-ups by Angela
