12.5 km (1000 meters/1 km)(100 cm/1 meter)
= [12.5 *1000*100] / [1*1] cm
= 1,250,000 cm

This is a problem in cancelling units
(12.5 km)(1000 m/km)(100 cm/m) = 1.25*10^6 cm
Notice on the left side, you have (km/km), and (m/m)
These units cancel leaving you with cm. This
string of cancelled units can be as long as needed
to arrive at the chosen unit of measure.
