Two things you are expected to know:
there are 5280 feet per mile (5280 feet/1 mile)
and
there is 1 yard per 3 feet (1 yard/ 3 feet)
.
2.3 miles * (5280 feet/1 mile) * (1 yard/ 3 feet)
Notice the units cancel leaving:
(2.3 * 5280)/3 yards
(2.3 * 1760) yards
4048 yards
