Imagine a cube with edges measuring 1 yard = 3 feet.
That is 1 cubic yard,
but it is also (3feet)(3feet)(3feet)= 27 cubic feet.

You can pretend that the units "cancel out".
The conversion factors tell you that 5 cubic yards is the same as cubic feet,
and if you pay $6 per cubic foot,
the cost for 45 cubic feet will be 45($6)=$270.
