Question 912136: hello, i'm not sure if this question even belongs in this area but if you could please help me that would be so great!! I've tried it like a 10 different ways and cannot come up with the right answer.
here it is:
((x+1)/(x-1))=((-7x)/(x+3))+((8)/(x-1)(x+3))
If you could help me that would be the best.

Use (x-1)*(x+3) as the commmon denominator

Since the DEN's are equal:

(x - 1)*(8x + 5) = 0
x = 1 --- reject, makes the DEN zero
x = -5/8
