(3x^2+2y^2+4x+8y)+(x^2-y^2)

Combine like terms! That means if you have more than one y^2 you add or multiply them as indicated to get only one y^2 term.
It's like sorting out a table full of fruit. You have 2 apples, 4 oranges, 2 more apples, one less orange, and so on. What you really have is 4 apples and 3 oranges, right?
Same thing with y^2, x^2, and other numbers.
In this case I see 3 x^2's and another x^2, 2 y^2's and a -y^2, 4 x's and 8 y's.
Some of these can be combined.
