can you please help me Factor the Following Quadratic:
7a^2 + 17a + 6
This is the arch, ac, or grouping method. I've heard it called all three things.
This is in ax^2+bx+c form. a=7, b=17, and c=6
We need to replace the b term with two numbers that multiply to give you a*c, but add to give you b. Then we factor by grouping.
a*c=7*6=42
42=14*3 and 17=14+3, so....
7a^2+14a+3a+6 factor the GCF out of the first two and last two terms:
7a(a+2)+3(a+2) factor out (a+2)

Happy Calculating!!!!

Factor:
The factors will have the form: (?a+m)(?a+n)
First, what are the possible factors of the first term ?
The only possibility here is: so you can start with:

The m and n must meet the following requirements:
m*n = 6 This is the last term of the trinomial.
The possibilities are:
m = 3 and n = 2
m = 1 and n = 6
Let's try the first set.
Using the FOIL method, multiply these factors.
Simplify to get: which is the original trinomial.
The factors are:
