Question 691892: Hi,
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I cannot learn under my Algebra 2 teacher and do not know the material.
Solve or simplify the problem using any method (what my textbook says):
(x^2+2x+2)/(x-1) = (2x+3)/(x-1)

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x^2+2x+2)/(x-1) = (2x+3)/(x-1)
-----
Multiply both sides by (x-1) to get:
x^2 + 2x + 2 = 2x + 3
----
Simplify:
x^2 - 1 = 0
----
Factor:
(x-1)(x+1) = 0
x = 1 or x = -1
------
x cannot be 1 because that would make the denominators be zero.
---
Conclusion: x = -1
