I'm not sure if this helps, but:
To find a cube root, I would factor the radical so that at least one of the factors is a perfect cube.
For example:
Find the cube root of:
cube root(27) [factor 27]
cube root(3*9) or
cube root(3*3*3) = 3
.
Example:
Find the cube root of:
cube root (54)[factor]
cube root(3*9*2]
cube root (3*3*3*2)
3cube root(2)
