Answer by wgomero(28)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
resolution:
the high of the dock = x
the rope from the boat to the dock is 3ft longer than twice the height of the dock= 2x + 3
setting the equation
2x + 3 = 12
2x = 9
x = 9/2
x = 4.5
dock high = 4 1/2 feet high.
