Question 479700: Simply this: {{sqrt(2) + sqrt(6)}/{sqrt(2 + sqrt(3)}}
I multiplied numerator and denominator by {sqrt(2 - sqrt(3)} and was pleased to see the denominator go away, but I was still left with a radical inside a radical. (I already know that the answer is 2, but how do I get there?)
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Simply this: {{sqrt(2) + sqrt(6)}/{sqrt(2) + sqrt(3)}}
---
Multiply numerator and denominator by [sqrt(2)-sqrt(3)] to get:
---
{{sqrt(2) + sqrt(6)} /[2-3)
---
Simplify the numerator:
---
[2-sqrt(6)+sqrt(12)-sqrt(18)]/(-1)
---
= [2-sqrt(6)+2sqrt(3)-3sqrt(2)]/-1
-----
If the answer you have is 2 you probably made a mistake in
your post to this site.
Cheers,
Stan H.
