For this one X^2-8X= -12 we can add 16 to both sides to get:
X^2-8X+16= 4
Now factor it to get:
(x-4)(x-4)=4
rewritten as:
(x-4)^2=4
Square root:
x-4=+-2
Add 4 to get:
x=-2
x=6
