i take it you mean i is "the square root of minus 1"? If so,
if i = sqrt%28-1%29 then square both sides gives i%5E2 = -1.
i%5E3 = i%2Ai%5E2 = -i
i%5E4 = i%5E2%2Ai%5E2 = -1*-1 = +1
