Question 217921: simplify i^29
Answer by RAY100(1637) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! i = sqrt (-1) =i
.
i^2 = (-1)
.
i^3 = -i
.
i^4 = +1
.
and then they repeat,,,every 4
.
i^5 = sqrt(-1)
.
etc
.
Since it the pattern does repeat for every 4th power,,
.
to find any power,,,divide by 4,,,and the REMAINDER is the power of concern,
.
for example,,i^5 =(5/4 = 1 R1)= i^1 =i= sqrt(-1)
.
for this problem,,,i^29 = (29/4 =7R1)=i^1 =i =sqrt(-1)
.
.
