Question 216920: Express each complex number in the form a+bi. (2i/2+i)-(5/2-i)
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Express each complex number in the form a+bi. (2i/2+i)-(5/2-i)
----------------------
(2i/(2+i))-(5/(2-i))
---
lcd = (2+i)(2-i) = 5
---
Rewrite each fraction with the lcd as its denominator:
---
[2i(2-i)/lcd] - [5(2+i)/lcd]
---
Combine the numerators over the lcd:
[4i+1 -10-5i]/lcd
---
Simplify the numerator:
[-9-i]/5
---
= (-9/5) + (-1/5)i
