Check the answer:
sqrt(4) + 4 = 2
2 + 4 = 2
This is a contradiction.

Solve for y:
Subtract 4 from both sides.
Now square both sides.
Check:
But or and if you were to select the positive value (2) you would see that the solution does not work... but the negative value (-2) does work....
So, we have an extraneous root (2) because of squaring which is to be discarded.
