Question 129688: x^2-2x+26=0 I have to factor this with complex numbers.
so I tried but I'm not sure if I did it right or if I can reduce my square root by 2. Here are the steps I took.
x={-(-2)+-the square root of -2 -4(1)(26)}/2
x= {2+- the square root of -108}/2
x= {2+- the square root of 108i}/2
x= 2/2 +- the square root of 108i/2
x=1+- the square root of 108i/2
and that's where I'm stuck at can I divide 108 by 2 even though 108 is in a square root?
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^2-2x+26=0 I have to factor this with complex numbers.
-----------------
x = [2 +- sqrt(2^2-4*26)]/2
x = [2 +- sqrt(-100)]/2
x = [2 +- 10i]/2
x = [1 +- 5i]
x= (1+5i) or x = 1-5i
Factors:
(x-(1+5i)(x-(1-5i))
Rewrite:
(x-1-5i)(x-1+5i)
===================
