Question 204172: Solve each inequality. Graph each solution set.
The absolute value of x is greater than x-1.
I can see that the answer is all reals (by plugging in various numbers from either end of the number line), but how is the equation solved mathmatically?
Thank you,

Question 204633: Solve for real values of x.
absolutevalue(x-3) = 3-x
I know to set the absolute value up to equal a positive and negative possiblity and so that makes
x-3 = 3-x and x-3 = -3+x
For the first I got x = 3 but the second I got 0 = 0 and that's where I am confused. Did I do something wrong?

Question 204745: what is the solution set for /-q/ = 7
I know that /q/ = 7 (7, -7)
But if q is negative, then I'm wondering if for some reason a negative would cancel out the negatvie in -q. Am I thinking too hard on this?
What is the answer and why?

Question 207253: Can you please help me with these? I need more clarity on working this one out.
|10(-5)| + 1(-1)
( the two lines at the beginning of the equation: | 10 (-5)| are called the absolute value bars)
Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated.

Question 209593: Solve each equation. Check for extraneous solutions.
Equation: |5x-1|+7=3x
Here's what I did:
|5x-1|+7=3x
-7 -7
|5x+1|=3x-7
5x-1=3x-7 OR 5x-1=-(3x-7)
+1 +1
5x=3x-6
-3x -3x
2x=-6
-- --
2 2
x=-3
OR
5x-1=-(3x-7)
5x-1=-3x
So, x=-3 or x=1.
CHECK:
|5x-1|+7=3x
|5(-3)-1|+7=+3(-3)
|-15-1|+7=-9
|-16|+7=-9
16+7=-9
23=9
But 23 doesn't equal 9. At first I thought it was just an exraneous solution. But then I checked the second number:
|5x-1|+7=3x
|5(1)-1|+7=3(1)
|5-1|+7=3
|4|+7=3
4+7=3
11=3
But again, 11 doesn't equal 3.
