10-|2x-1|=4
isolate the absolute value
-|2x-1|=-6
Multiply by minus 1
|2x-1|=6
This is 2x-1=6; 2x=7; x=3.5
It is also 2x-1=-6; 2x=-5; x=-2.5

10-|7-1|=4 yes
10-|-5-1|=10-|-6|, but |-6|=6, so 10-6=4.
You can always get the first equation by removing the brackets. The second one requires sign changes.
