2|B+4|=48
Divide both sides by 2 to get:
|B+4| = 24
B+4 = 24 or B+4=-24
B = 20 or B = -28

Start with the given equation

Divide both sides by 2 (note: you don't subtract 4 from both sides first. You cannot do this since 4 is inside the absolute value brackets, which are like parenthesis)

Break up the absolute value

or Set equal to 24 and -24

or Subtract 4 from both sides for each equation

So our answer is:

or

Check:

Let's check the answer

Start with the given equation

Plug in

Add

Take the absolute value of 24 to get 24

Multiply. Since the two sides of the equation are equal, this verifies our answer.
