Question 922725: a number is twice another number. when the larger is subtracted from 50, the result is 2 more than the smaller is subtracted from 40. find the number
Answer by srinivas.g(540) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let larger no be x and smaller no be y
x =2*y
when the larger is subtracted from 50, the result is 2 more than the smaller is subtracted from 40.
so 50-x= (40-y)+2
put x=2y in above equation
50-(2y) =40-y+2
50-2y= 42-y
move -2y to the right
50 = 42-y+2y
50= 42+y
move 42 to the left
50-42 =y
8=y
so , y= 8
x = 2*8
=16
x= 16
larger no is 16 & smaller no is 8
