divide both sides by 2
|3x - 2| = 7
Remove the abs, solve two equations
3x - 2 = 7
3x = 7 + 2
3x = 9
x = 9/3
x = 3
and
3x - 2 = -7
3x = -7 + 2
3x = -5
x = -5/3

Check this by replacing x in the original problem with both solutions
x = 3
2|3(3)-2| = 14
2(7) = 14
and
x=-5/3
2|3(-5/3)-2| = 14
2|-5 - 2) = 14
2|-7| = 14
Any value coming out of the abs, is positive
