Question 720177: I'm not sure if this qualifies for absolute value, but here goes. The problem appears in the form: 3 to the left of the lines indicating absolute value, y+3 inside the lines indicating absolute value, and < 9 ot the right of the lines. I believe it should be read 3 times the ablsolute value of y plus three is less than 9, but I'm not sure and I'm not sure of the method to solve. If you can help or refer me to someone who can it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume you mean
3|y+3| < 9
Divide both sides by 3 and you have
|y + 3| < 3
Two solutions
y + 3 < 3
y < 3 - 3
y < 0
and
y + 3 > -3, note we reversed the inequality sign when we change to -3
y > -3 - 3
y > -6
