This problem is from a correspondence class. I know that it should be simple, but I just can't figure it out right now. Please provide some help.
Sove for X and Y in the following problems:
a. X + Y = 6; 2X + Y = 8
b. 7X + 3Y = 14; 5X + 9Y = 10
c. 4X + Y = 16; 2X + 3Y = 24
d. 12X + Y = 25; 8X - 2Y = 14
ALL ARE OF SIMILAR TYPE..LET ME SHOW YOU ONE
LET US TAKE B.
7X+3Y=14................1
5X+9Y=10..................2
WE EQUATE COEFFICIENTS OF ONE VARIABLE...SAY...X..SO MULTIPLY EQN.1
WITH 5 AND EQN.2 WITH 7 AND SUBTRACT
5*EQN.1-7*EQN.2
35X+15Y-35X-63Y=5*14-7*10=70-70=0
-48Y=0
Y=0...PUT IT IN EQN.1
7X+3*0=14
X=14/7=2
