There are rules for inequalities with absolute value.
If |x| < a then -a < x < a

|2k-5| < 23 So -23 < 2k-5 < 23

Add 5 to all parts. -23+5 < 2k-5+5 < 23+5 ---> -18 < 2k < 28

Divide all parts by 2. -18/2 < 2k/2 < 28/2 ---> -9 < k < 14
