If you had |x|=3 you would know that x=3 or x=-3

Similarly if[11+2x]=5 then 11+2x must be 5 or it must be -5, so:
if 11+2x=5
then 2x=-6
and x=-3
---
if 11+2x=-5
then 2x=-16
and x=-8

SOLUTION:
x=-3 or -8
--------------------------------
The following problems follow the same pattern.
[8x+1]=23, [1/2x-3]=2
