that is
5x-6=10 or 5x-6=-10 (because 10 and -10 have the same absolute value 10).
5x=10+6 or 5x=-10+6
5x=16 or 5x=-4
x=16/5 or x=-4/5
x=3.2 or x=-0.8 Two acceptable solutions.
(ii)
2x-4=5x+7 or 2x-4=-5x-7
2x-5x=7+4 or 2x+5x=-7+4
-3x=11 or 7x=-3
x=-11/3 or x=-3/7
(iii)
6+8x=2 or 6+8x=-2
8x=2-6 or 8x=-2-6
8x=-4 or 8x=-8
x=-4/8 or x=-8/8
x=-1/2 or x=-1
