| x - |2x + 1| | = 3
this is equivalent to
x - |2x + 1| = -3 OR x - |2x + 1| = 3
-|2x + 1| = -3 - x -|2x + 1| = 3 - x
|2x + 1| = x + 3 |2x + 1| = x - 3
|2x + 1| = x + 3
this is equivalent to
2x + 1 = -(x + 3) OR 2x + 1 = x + 3
2x + 1 = -x - 3 x = 2
3x = -4
x = -4/3
